All will march in his army, and those who cannot keep up we will not allow to get fat from a welfare state. He who cannot keep up shall not eat. Ludendorff taught thag war was a natural state of man, and peace the anomaly. Peace allows a nation to get weak, while war is the blacksmith's hammer tempering tne sword. War created civilisation. And yet we wonder why civilisations collapse. We need a new Roman Empire, and we need total war, and we need an army 100 thousand stŕong standing before the emperor, and the entire crowd will shout, HAIL CAESAR! It is not too late to rise and rage and turn history's page.

The Romans were hard men. There is not doubt about it. But they were hard men because they had something soft to love. They loved Rome. Until people are given something to love, they will never have something to fight for. And I think the main problem is people simply no longer love their culture and communities.
And so much study of history is from the outside and the distance. We never really consider what those things were to the men of that time. It's like there needs to be a deeper study of historic philosophy to know what did motivate men to act with great courage and endurance. But I dont think it was a love of war and bloodlust, but something gentler and nicer. And they took pleasure in become great, violent men in order to protect the nice things that they love.
