>>8917 Weed is, in a serious way, worse than alcohol in this regard. If you are a chronic boozer you eventually start to run out of road: you will get a DUI, lose your job, beat your wife, end up in the hospital, etc. The party can't last forever. Weed is more pernicious because it throws up none of those roadblocks, really. You can blaze all day er'ry day -- living in a total stupor -- without any of the same social or biophysical pushback. The mellow stoner who has his brain melting out of his ears is less objectionable than the drunk. Its interminable. There is no life-or-death reason to quit, you never have a come-to-Jesus epiphany, you are just frying your endocrine system in this warm THC bath. When I was a teen pot was nice if you laid in bed with music on. When you were out in the world you are laden with this scatterbrained feeling. All thoughts come and go like flashes of light and its impossible to focus on anything other than breathing manually or some other asinine distraction. Some people live like that 24/7 and are robbed of any higher-order cognitive functions. What is most harmful about weed are the opium-like qualities of it: your room could be a disaster, your life could be fucked up, but one puff and you're in Shangri-La, totally content, blissed-out, and amazed by lights and colours in a perfect pipe dream -- while your life just continues to crumble around you. I always found the weed comedown quite sad, knowing that the ride was over and that I felt euphoric as my life just got worse. It really doesn't enhance the world around you so much as it transports you into a surrogate fantasy one. At least alcohol has a vitalizing effect before you reach the dosages that put you in a stupor.
Has anyone else noticed that like 50% of the people you knew when you were 16-20 has "dropped out of life" to smoke weed all day? Like, maybe they have a job but they're hitting a pen once an hour on the clock and after work they just go home to smoke more weed. Little or no social life, not even an online presence really, just a 24/7 chemical locked-in syndrome that strips them to the bare necessities of keeping the lights on and buying new carts
