You're listing things you've heard about but have zero understanding of any of them
Chile:
- Fun, autism-tingling country shape
- Extremely diverse range of geography
- Hub of astronomy
- Completely unintelligible variety of Spanish, inaccessible to outsiders creating natural in-group selection
- Based metal scene
- Unique cuisine, everyone knows ceviche the world over, birthplace of the potato
- Ancient contact with Polynesian culture, Rapa Nui cool place
- Most of the Chileans you meet are chill, generally open-minded, tend to be on the quiet side even
Argentina:
- World's biggest Europe dick-suckers, seriously is there anything more cringe than Latinos who base their entire identity over how white they are and how close they are to their European heritage
- Cuisine known for nothing besides meat products, a consequence of their terrain allowing for grazing and not actually a novelty (and herba mate which they stole from the natives after they killed them)
- Boring music scene, tango is grandma-tier at best
- Fucked up economic dynamics, so weird it's academically notable ('four types of economies')
- Milei, a literal ancap straight from reddit
- Entire national identity rests on the shoulders of one footie star
- Obscene history of brutally eliminating the natives that rivals only the US in its cruelty
- Cringe national pride "war" with the UK over the Falklands
- Every Argentinean you meet or talk to online is the worst, like a Latin American Israeli

Borges is great, but out of latin american literature I always preferred Marquez. I always wanted to visit and see deep south of it, Patagonia and all, not out of some deep interest per se, but more in the way you point at some remote ass-end of the world and you wonder what's going on there. Obviously Chile seems like much more interesting destination in general on behalf of Andes alone. But frankly I don't have the balls to visit SA at all.
Otherwise I have nothing of substance to add.

Do not come here, anti-gringo sentiment is on the rise and people are starting to drug and lynch tourist
Es el uno grande entre los grandes...
Could maybe be a cool country if they banned sports outright. Felony crime to be caught discussing or watching, death penalty for distribution or broadcasting. I bet they'd make some good art

damn this shit (clic modernos) is really great. some really beautiful, heavy synth action. kind of a weird fusion of things, but it works. thanks anon. i'll look up that vid.
making this gringo really want to sip some fernet and cokes on the beach, look towards antarctica, and defend the falklands.

i listened to a little charly garcia via the album peperina. will put cerati on the to listen to list.
imo his solo work (Clics Modernos, notably) is better than his Seru Giran stuff.
If you want to dig deeper I'd also recommend watching the video of him lunging into a fucking 10ft deep pool from the balcony of his hotel room.
I still hate Argentina.

for some reason from the 70s to 2000 Argentina produced some of the greatest non-folk music in the continent.
There's good stuff from elsewhere (los prisioneros, los bunkers, los rodriguez, cafe tacvba, aterciopelados, etc.) but nowhere near the same volume/quality as Argentinian artists.
