Borges is great, but out of latin american literature I always preferred Marquez. I always wanted to visit and see deep south of it, Patagonia and all, not out of some deep interest per se, but more in the way you point at some remote ass-end of the world and you wonder what's going on there. Obviously Chile seems like much more interesting destination in general on behalf of Andes alone. But frankly I don't have the balls to visit SA at all. Otherwise I have nothing of substance to add.

imo his solo work (Clics Modernos, notably) is better than his Seru Giran stuff. If you want to dig deeper I'd also recommend watching the video of him lunging into a fucking 10ft deep pool from the balcony of his hotel room.

for some reason from the 70s to 2000 Argentina produced some of the greatest non-folk music in the continent. There's good stuff from elsewhere (los prisioneros, los bunkers, los rodriguez, cafe tacvba, aterciopelados, etc.) but nowhere near the same volume/quality as Argentinian artists.

i had no idea, i suppose i'll have to dive into the musical history of Argentina a bit more. i am interested in the scene of south america as a whole though.
