What 392 DKK buys you in Copenhagen : Anonymous : 47 days ago : No.848

Approximately $58, £44, or €53. This is at Lidl, it would be a bit more expensive at some other places.

I also got some bread rolls that I forgot to put in the photo

That doesn't seem like a lot. But Copenhagen is an expensive city so that might a normal amount of food for the money. How has inflation been in recent years?

There are a couple of expensive things here that push the price up. The olive oil alone was 75 DKK, and the beef mince 47 DKK. But it's true that in general grocery shopping is fairly expensive here. More so than in Britain where I lived before. Most of these items are the 'middle shelf' option, for what it's worth. If I went to an upmarket supermarket and bought everything organic (very popular in this country), then I could easily have spent 500 DKK on basically the same basket. Inflation was fairly severe in 2022, basically a 10% price hike over the course of the year, but it's been more or less flat since then. The government have a good website where you can see the statistics. https://www.dst.dk/en/Statistik/emner/oekonomi/prisindeks/forbrugerprisindeks

The North/Scandinavia is pretty expensive food-wise. I wouldn't complain, but the quality is so low for the price...

Anonymous : 43 days ago : No.860

I always see people complain about the quality, it may be that I'm not discerning, but I don't have much of a problem with it. Denmark has good vegetables, milk and eggs, beef and pork. One complain I have is that I do wish there were a greater variety of domestic cheese. In Britain you can get a variety of nice cheeses all at a reasonable price. In Denmark you basically just have a choice of different maturities of Danbo.

Depends what we compare to. Comparing Nordic's "fresh produce" to France, Italy or Spain's doesn't seem fair. There is no compensating for the sun.

Is Spanish produce really profoundly better than Northern European? It's not obvious to me that growing fruit and veg at warp speed in an Andalusian polytunnel is going to produce the highest quality goods.

Anonymous : 37 days ago : No.875

There is no comparison to be made. I now live in the North and I'm weeping, for both my wallet and my stomach. Maybe I haven't found a good grocer yet? I am loosing hope as winter grows.

Have you tried the arab grocers?

Anonymous : 35 days ago : No.878

>>877 Not yet! Last hope.
