I just finished this and loved it. To those who have read: do we think he actually collected this testimony, or is it just made up? It seems too ridiculous to be believed at points. Either way, fantastic book.
15 years ago Domosławski released his "Kapuściński non-fiction" to some controversy, including lawsuits from Ryszard's wife. Main assertions of the book were that:
A) Kapuściński was at the very least Party's pet, and enjoyed freedom and support far exceeding that of most jounalists and writers at the time. He was also communist by conviction ( importan due to bias) and iirc maybe proved to be cooperator of bezpieka in some capacity.
B) His factography is very faulty at best, be frequently made up events he portrayed and spiced up his reportings. Cared about his image as auteur a lot.
Wife started litigation against the book mostly because of depiction if their private/family lof though and ended up losing in the appeal court. I haven't read it myself and I am not very up to date on this discourse but I would say that it is generally tacktily acknowledge that while his stories are good they are also at least partially made up
