Traveling from the west coast to the east, they cancelled my original but at the cost of another two days in California they upgraded my room on the California Zephyr and gave me a roomette on the train from hell, the Lakeshore Limited. Pillows, sheets, and mattress are solid. Additional blanket on top is one use cancer causing whatever.
Looks comfy What made you decide to travel the country by train? Do you get breaks in certain cities?
I really like the names that they give trains in the US. Other than the Flying Scotsman I'm not sure we do that in Britain.
> 804 I usually travel by train so across the country on them was just because I had to go see some friends on the west coast. On the way here I was in coach and it was surprisingly cheap, but I dunno if I would do it again as a solo traveler. Not of danger or anything but couple travelers could really maximize the space. Peak move is to bring a blanket. Breaks are pretty short (like 30 mins max if the train's running early and it's a designated smoke / fresh air break) but I do have a 6 hour layover in Chicago to kill time.
Do you not like flying or is it just that you enjoy train rides?
I haven't had valid ID in years, plus I like trains. Flying is fine except you lose all sense of actual distance and there's no cafe car to hang in. Next time I go cross country I'll probably fly now that I "get it", sort of. I'll continue taking my 10 hour trip to visit family by train though.
One of our engines kept shutting down from overheating so we didn't have enough power to get over the rocky mountains. They stuck a freight engine on front and we're five hours late, so they're giving out free snacks before a mob attacks them. Love the train tbh
