Post pics of buildings and places that make you feel something
The overwhelming sense of vulgarity is part of the whole appeal IMO

One ancient source I've read is Vitruvius. He was a Roman who wrote much on proportion, design, and land use in Roman cities. It's very interesting, especially in the similarity and difference in thought between then and now. Unfortunately, I haven't read much contemporary material.
Not a picture, but does anyone have any good recommendations for websites or books or lecture series that could help me become familiar with architecture and architectural history?
I feel that I have a more or less sound understanding of the arc of intellectual history in general through the middle ages and into modernity and post-modernity. But architecture is something of a blind spot and beyond various fragments that I've picked up over the years I have no cohesive understanding of architecture either as an artform or a discipline.

Any recommendations on gothic architecture for someone interesting in designing buildings?
