What are the best examples of this burgeoning genre? One that I saw recently was Our Hero Balthazar which is about school shootings and performative activism, basically The Dirties with a social media theme and even more homoeroticism, somehow. It’s very much targeted towards a chronically online audience, with jokes like a character’s room having a gay flag, Nazi armband, don’t tread on me memorabilia, and a hentai poster, which he explains as his having “went through a lot of phases”, it also features characters like a right wing grifter who has his own failson take part in his multi-level marketing protein powder scheme, and a borderline defamatory caricature of Hakeem Jeffries. I highly recommend this movie. It captures the vibe of Trumps second term very well.

Most internet movies and internet books rely on the cheap novelty effect of saying internet words about internet things in a Serious Medium. I can't think of a movie example rn but Tony Tuwhatshisname's 'Rejection' is probably the most blatant literary example.
I also saw 0s and 1s which is a kind of early internet version of After Hours. It’s by the same director who did Spree with Joe Kerry (a very charming found footage movie about a live-streaming serial killer) and 2 movies with Dasha, neither of which I’ve watched. Spree and 0s and 1s are not particularly deep but they both have very funny dialogue and excellent aesthetics (0s and 1s especially, it covers the entire screen with computer GUI and pop up windows in a way that sounds gimmicky but is actually quite pleasing to look at and surprisingly unobtrusive).

everything I have ever seen from Peter Vack just makes me think "what the fuck is his problem"
Then there’s RachelOrmont.com; this movie has still not gotten an actual distribution but I saw a rough cut on a website that has since been shut down. They absolutely hate this movie on letterboxd, and it does seem pretty reactionary. But I think the sensory overload and constant gross outs (actual penetration is shown on screen, for one) actually make this the only movie to really capture the feeling of browsing online today, where you can see FPV drone footage next to AI soap cutting videos and national news and not really think much of any of it. Also, Dasha does a surprisingly good job in her role.
