Per the request of this board’s administration, I will be conducting a book review: Last month I read 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea and it sucked. There was no story, there was no character development, it was just 300 pages of Jules Verne talking about fish. Never read, just watch movies and argue with unemployed grad students on petrarchan.com. This concludes my review.

One thing I wonder about these early sci fi authors like Verne and HG Wells, who seem to be generally considered a cut above regular sci-fi in literary circles, is whether they were writing for a literary audience in their day, or if they were writing popular / genre fiction that has been elevated to a higher echelon over time by virtue of their prescience and pre-emption of a genre.
