One of the best movies I’ve ever seen. The thing with the banana was weird though.

What the fuck? You're not supposed to mention the banana.

>>11877 The film is similar to a Dickens novel in that its focus is on the city as a whole rather than the individual characters. The film is more than 20 years old now and was on the tail end of hood films being done to death; it isn’t saying anything revolutionary, but it said what it had to say in an interesting way. The flashback with Ned was one of the weaker points of the film, but it sets up the final act with the Runts showing how violence moves from being instrumental (the Tender Trio) to capricious (Ze) to retaliatory (Ned). It also emphasized the arbitrary nature of the violence stemming from indifference towards human life (e.g. the kid getting killed by Melonhead during Clipper’s escape, Tuba’s death, and the final act with the Runts).

This movie is a fantastic litmus test for if you're a completely tasteless sheep. It's actually one of the most moronic movies ever made and white liberals love it as a sort of shibboleth because it seems socially aware or something. If you actually pay attention, this movie is about as sophisticated as Django Unchained. 2 hours of people getting shot, the only "message" is like... the circle of violence or something... never heard that one before. For a movie about the favelas it's pretty amazing that there's not a single female character who isn't written as a literal hole. I seriously think you could find better social commentary in a grand theft auto game. The peak of retardation in this movie is when knockout ned gets betrayed by the little kid. The movie shows to display this with a literal slow motion, black and white flashback sequence with sad music, just to make sure you didn't miss it. And then has the audacity to present this soap opera "twist" as if it says something deep about anything at all. This movie pissed me off so badly I cannot possibly believe that people talk about it the way they do.
