anyone else research how to execute your crazy ideas all the time : Anonymous : 54 days ago : No.1116

right now i'm trying to figure out what it would take to build a small island to use for scientific research in one of the great lakes. i definitely don't have the time or money to act on it but i'd like to know in case i ever do. 99 out of 100 times it is like this but very occasionally i'll pick up some concerning side project that is far outside of my usual realm of knowledge and all my friends are like wtf where did that come from and it's something from my crazy idea stash that circumstances finally allowed for and i was able to pick it up and run with it because i had it all planned out already.

name one of these 'concerning side projects'

>>1129 got into pirate radio broadcasting in brooklyn as a white guy

Anonymous : 51 days ago : No.1164

sounds cool how long did you keep it up and did you get busted by the fcc?

Anonymous : 48 days ago : No.1177

yeah i kept it up for a month before the fcc found me. fortunately i just got a warning and no fine bc the amount of money can get ridiculous but i tried to tactfully willfully misinterpret fcc part 15 rules (allowable limits for unlicensed broadcasting) which helped my cause i think. the landscape here sucks they literally have it better in most of europe in terms of amateur one-way broadcast limits. there's no reason you shouldn't be able to use half a watt. especially on the am band, it's dead.

>>1177 did you consider getting into legal ham radio instead or was the appeal in the illicitness of it

Anonymous : 48 days ago : No.1182

>>1181 Not OP, but ham radio is full of boomers who freak out like Call of Duty gamers when they hear a woman's voice on air, droning on their callsigns for literally hours on end, plus you can't play any music without a license so might as well go illegal anyway.

>>1182 >The abbreviations OM, YL and XYL stand in the general sense for the operator working at a radio station. They can be used as a salutation. OM comes from old man , which means lovingly old man and applies to male radio amateurs (even if they should only be 14 years old). Since radio amateurs are polite people, our ladies are referred to as young ladies (YL, young ladies). When they are married (but only then), they are addressed as XYL (ex YL).

>>1188 grim. goes to show that the internet isn't wholly to blame for neckbeards... that shit was latent.

>>1193 Ham radio is the proto-neckbeard hobby. Nerd interest, male dominated (most of them got into it during their time in the army, starting with WWI), happens in basements, might be useful in case of Armageddon. Perfect recipe to get a sausage fest, dick measuring contests and white knighting. It is a very interesting hobby though (some clubs send actual satellites). To their defense, they try their best to include the rare women, but most of them are in their 70s, and the YL abbreviation is their idea of inclusion.

>>1181 i am a ham but it's often gay in practice as discussed above. ft8 is cool because who thought we'd still be discovering ways to squeeze more information out of radio waves in the 2020s but there's nothing to it besides making long range contacts so it gets boring. with my pirate station i was more interested in trying to escape the current internet psyop dome through different kinds of communication that have been abandoned by the establishment which should explain why i'm here. >>1182 LMAO

Getting a small seaworthy vessel and traveling the globe successfully sustaining the enterprise with the bounty of the sea and the sailsmenship of a worthy few. I met someone on /lit/ who was trying to organize this on discord he even bought the boat. Perhaps his motivation petered out as he stopped posting sometime later

>>1213 I've been daydreaming about local mesh networks for a local Internet that can't be accessed unless you're in the neighborhood. I'm thinking a Wikipedia mirror, an anonymous image board and you're good to go. A bit like these portable "Web"s that are deployed in remote schools in some poor countries.
