Therapy, Self-Help, So On : Anonymous : 14 days ago : No.11018

Have any of you lot who think you have problems of the psychic kind tried to solve them? What has helped the most? Once again, I think I should do something about my idiotic anxiety. Mainly because I've realized I'm too old to be physically cringing and swearing aloud at things I did 20 years ago as if it happened tomorrow, or be too afraid to talk to someone and go out of my way to avoid the faintest possibility. I've been considering DBT because those who are in my position seem to think it "works", but I tend to smear orthodox methods with the same brush (that is, they are bad). Maybe I need Prozac? Or just whiskey?

There are a million different possible answers and you have to find what works. I had success with psychodynamic psychotherapy. Free associating with the insight from the therapist did give me a greater degree of meaningful agency and self-consciousness. I like the interpretation of the psychoanalytic methods that it is a "theory of history" that gives you freedom in the present by allowing you to assimilate and reckon with what bothers you about your past. And what is best is that the therapist is a blank slate instead of your typical patient-clinician dynamic which can be daunting. For anxiety I found it very helpful. I want you to do something about it because I know there is no worse feeling than going around the world acting like a slave afraid of a beating. There is life beyond that. You could also get schizo with the biochemical stuff. Thanks to AncestryDNA + Claude I found a MTHFR polymorphism that riboflavin helped dramatically, as well as a other mutations that have to do with how your brain handles neurotransmitters like dopamine and how efficiently it gets cleared.

>>11046 Sedona Method = just dont know think about it, bro? Yeah, I agree. Most non-retardedly anxious people I know basically cannot comprehend the fixation which anxiety, regret, or shame takes in my everyday existence. They basically just cock their heads and wonder why I don't just drop it. Will check it out more
Sedona Method works. Don't bother reading the books. Don't bother watching videos. There's like a 6 step technique and probably 3 of those steps are padding. It's probably just explaining, in actionable steps, the acceptance stage at the core of every technique of emotional processing. Healthy people probably do this reflexively and I had to learn it as an adult because my dad had rage issues.

>>11053 > just dont know think about it, bro? Short answer, YES. At the end of the day, if you're having a dysfunctional response to your thoughts then you need a way to stop that that. Pic related. I don't want to make the Sedona Method sound like some transcendental whatever. It's not. It's a basic set of steps that stand to move into a moment of equanimity. I don't want to spell it out here because Petrarchan, honestly, has replicated the puerile, adversarial, and dismissive aspects of -chan culture. If you're sincerely looking for help, this is sincerely what I would recommend.

>>11054 I think my physiological problem is an inherent lack of alcohol in my body, so I need to keep at least a shooter on me at all times. Jk. I used to think that breath control stuff was silly, but it's probably worth at least using it to transfer your thoughts to something else or believe that it's a breath problem.
To an extent, anxiety is a physiological problem and can be tackled from that angle, i.e. breath control, calming techniques, meditation

>>11313 actually, let me rephase: I think that most of the time, I am under the delusion that emotions are voluntary and controllable, but I simultaneously think that there is no such thing and that our emotions are in fact very obscure and impossible to control, especially by one's self.
