Absolute truth about humanity/the universe is not meant to be understood, and if it was it would probably be completely awful and cynical. But for some incredible reason believing in some glorious good plan that underlies the universe actually leads to better outcomes on our scale, and the people who lead the best lives are the ones who stick to their fundamental beliefs without asking too many questions about things that are beyond them. Likewise, the sun is a big ball of fire that will burn you if you jump in and will blind you if you spend all your time looking at it, but at a certain distance it can create all of life, for example.
Hm, feels defeatist and paternalistic. If I'm told I'm "not meant" to understand something, it makes me want to approach it even more, even if I might not be capable of grasping all of it.

This is true on a macro scale, but it's settling for mediocrity. There is nothing inherently contradictory between asking questions and "leading a good life". If contemplating the ghastly nature of the expanse of the universe causes you to lose interest in participating in human society, that's down to the fragile nature of your ego, something that should be evolved out of as much as sheep-like comfort under a set of rules.

I'm with the Satanists on this one. I think it's a great idea, I want to know everything and deserve to by virtue of being an alive, thinking human.
I think ultimately my point is that attempting to view things from the perspective of God is not a good idea, and we'd be better off tending to our own affairs. Which is kind of ironic because my post is also attempting to view things from the perspective of God. Knowledge is a curse!

the truth, like the sun, is something to enjoy basking in, though too much and too little are both fatal. the sun, like the truth, is something we should all show our assholes to, in order to mature as beings.
